"Sono Italiano per scelta; dopo il referendum sulla Brexit del 2016 non ho avuto altra alternativa che chiedere la cittadinanza italiana. Sono di origine gallese e vivo vicino a Bologna da tanti anni. Sono un fotografo documentarista e lavoro principalmente su progetti a lungo termine.
Da tre anni ho ripreso un progetto fotografico sulle feste popolari (e non solo) in Italia iniziato tre decenni fa e ampliato in modo continuo da allora in tutto il paese.
FESTE è semplicemente una raccolta d’immagini di un osservatore, soggettivo ma anche acuto; non pretende d’essere uno studio accademico o un profondo progetto antropologico sulle feste in Italia.
FESTE comunque documenta profondamente non solo usi e tradizioni molto legate al territorio ma anche le principali evoluzioni nella società Italiana negli ultimi trent’anni e questo nel modo più divertente possibile.
In un periodo socio/economico che sarà particolarmente difficile, credo che i popoli italiani continueranno ad apprezzare i loro valori locali, sia quelli tradizionali sia quelli acquisiti negli ultimi anni. Amo l’Italia anche per la sua diversità locale e regionale; credo che sia questo il fondamento della sua ricchezza culturale. Credo, comunque che l’identità culturale sia in continua trasformazione e mutazione; è in momenti come questi che bisogna riflettere tutti (e bene) sul dove si va. Spero che un occhio esterno ma anche, ormai, interno possa essere utile in queste riflessioni. FESTE è una celebrazione della cultura popolare italiana: Buone Feste!" (Rhodri Jones)

"I am Italian by choice; after the Brexit referendum in 2016, I had no alternative but to ask for Italian citizenship. I am of Welsh origin and have lived near Bologna for many years. I am a documentary photographer and work mainly on long-term projects.
Three years ago I decided to complete a photographic project on popular festivals (and other events) in Italy that I had began three decades previously and have continuously expanded throughout the country ever since.
FESTE is simply a collection of images by a subjective but also acute observer; it does not aspire to be an academic or a profound anthropological study on the subject.
FESTE, however, does not only document the customs and traditions that are important to local identities, it also traces the evolution of Italian society over the last thirty years in both an engaging and fun way.
In a social/economic period that will become particularly difficult, I believe that the Italian peoples will continue to appreciate not only their local traditions and values but also those that they have acquired in recent years.
I love Italy for its regional and local diversity, which is the foundation of the nation’s cultural wealth. However, I also believe that cultural identity constantly transforms and mutates; and that in moments like these we must all reflect (and constructively) on where we are headed. I can only hope that an ‘external eye’ but also one which has, by now, become ‘internal’ will be of help in these reflections. FESTE is a celebration of Italian popular culture: Buone Feste!"
